Finding autism is a journey that started when I took my son in for a doctor's visit because he was talking at 9 months and suddenly stopped. For almost 2 years he wouldn't speak and the doctors said that it was because some boys develop slower than others. This was all done with smile.
From that moment, I became an advocate for autism, my son, and my family. I had no clue what I was doing or why son was behaving the way he was. I wanted desperately to be a part of a community that could relate to what I was experiencing and also share best practices that would help him progress.
This blog is designed to connect with real families so that they can share their experiences with autism. The hope is that this community provide help to someone experiencing similar situations and use that feedback to enhance their own lives.
For now, I will continue to push for the use positive affirmations in public in an effort to ensure that families with autism are not burdened with negative interactions. One simple way is to just start off by being nice. Let's find autism together so that families have better experiences in social settings.
